We are Untapped Water

Access to clean water is a fundamental right. Our mission is to empower underserved communities in Kenya by providing sustainable water and female hygiene solutions.
Untapped was established in 2019 with a mission to provide innovative water solutions. In 2024, we expanded our focus to include female hygiene initiatives.
To date, we have successfully installed 63 water distribution sites, serving approximately 400 customers at each location, which benefits around 25,000 individuals in total.
Our goal is to set up three new sites each month, aiming for a total of 36 sites by the end of the 2024.

Why this is important

41%

Kenya’s population lacking access to clean, affordable and reliable water sources.

65%

Women and girls in Kenya’s rural areas with limited access to affordable and sustainable menstrual hygiene products.*

A socio-cultural problem

Persistent taboos prevent open discussions about menstrual health, affecting women’s confidence and participation in community life.

Our Solution

What we do best.
Financing and machine installation of water sites.

These sites provide accessible clean water at a low cost ($0.10 for a 20-liter jerrican).

Setting up feminine hygiene dispensers in each site.

The dispensers provide sanitary towels that women and girls can afford ($0.10 per pad instead of a $1 per pack).

Engaging Community Based Organisations (CBOs) to run the sites.

This provides economic livelihood for the people in the community.

Support and maintenance.

Untapped Water provides after support & maintenance.

Empowering local entrepreneurs and CBOs

1

The project makes approximately $300 in revenue per month.

2

Untapped Water retains $150 per month to repay the loan. The entrepreneur/CBO makes $150 during the loan repayment period.

3

After about 15 months the loan is settled, the entrepreneur/CBO fully owns the project and keeps all the revenue generated.

Esitao

TESTIMONIAL

Before Untapped Water, poor revenue collection and water wastage was the norm. Their solution streamlined this for us and we can now provide water and farm efficiently.
